VCU Shuttles Run on Propane Autogas

‘RamSafe’ Fleet Vehicles Converted with Partners Including Alliance AutoGas

Virginia Commonwealth University’s Parking and Transportation unit has converted 70% percent of its RamSafe fleet – seven Ford-chassis shuttles – to operate on propane autogas via a partnership with the Virginia Department of General Services, Alliance AutoGas, Virginia Clean Cities and the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy.

Milestone for Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program

Virginia Clean Cities is spreading the word that 1,000 vehicles have been successfully converted to run on propane autogas through the Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program. SPADP is supported by funding from ARRA, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities Program.

Sheriff in North Carolina Runs Ten Cruisers on Propane

The Sheriff’s Office in Buncombe County, N.C., expects to save more than $13,000 per year – and is displacing 20 tons of greenhouse gas emissions – by running ten Ford Crown Victoria cruisers on propane autogas. Buncombe received funding under SPADP, the Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program, administered by Virginia Clean Cities.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office near Atlanta is saving an estimated $135,000 annually in fuel costs running 36 Ford Crown Victoria sedans on propane autogas – and is adding more, says Virginia Clean Cities, which manages SPADP, the Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program.

Propane Is Saving $1.62 Per Gallon

So Says Virginia Clean Cities-Southeast Propane Autogas

Fleets participating in the 12-state Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program saved an average of $1.62 per gallon by filling up with propane autogas instead of gasoline during the last quarter, says the Hampton Roads-based Virginia Clean Cities office. Total savings exceeded $100,000.

Baltimore First for Veolia Propane

Veolia Transportation is adding 300 propane-gasoline bi-fuel taxis, beginning with 50 vehicles for Baltimore Yellow Cab (and Checker) and planning 250 more for Pittsburgh, Jacksonville and Denver by year-end.

The vehicles have Prins fuel systems, says David Finder of Alliance AutoGas, which now has 45 partner companies in 37 states.
