‘Nationwide, 36% of Our Natural Gas Fleet Runs on Biomethane’

Waste Management now operates more than 5,000 natural gas vehicles out of its overall fleet of more than 32,000. “One of our primary strategies for reducing emissions,” the company says in its just-released 2016 Sustainability Report, “is to transition our fleet of 18,500 collection vehicles from diesel to cleaner-burning natural gas.”

The office of Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett has publicized grants via the Commonwealth Financing Authority supporting six compressed natural gas fueling stations. “The proliferation of fueling stations is expected to result in reduced emissions, fuel savings and the utilization of domestically produced natural gas,” states a release.

Waste Management is quietly evaluating Mercedes-Benz Econic NGT refuse trucks in Texas, with two vehicles in hand and a third expected soon. Adds 13 Fueling Stations in 2012, Boasts Nearly 1,700 Trucks

Waste Management opened 13 compressed natural gas fueling stations in the U.S. in the first half of 2012, of which nine offer public access. The firm also said last week that it has nearly 1,700 natural gas trucks – it celebrated deployment of the 1,000th just over one year ago in California (F&F, July 18, 2011).

Paccar Unit Claims 40% Commercial Truck Market Share

Paccar’s Denton, Texas-based Peterbilt Motors is talking up its prowess in natural gas vehicles, noting that it’s been manufacturing trucks powered by liquefied natural gas and compressed natural gas since 1996, and has now earned a 40% market share of the commercial natural gas truck market, “providing vehicle solutions for over-the-road, regional and vocational applications.”
