For Lightweight Diesel Plug-In Hybrid, 261 MPG Is ‘a Reality’

Volkswagen has proclaimed its two-seat carbon composite XL1, which is to enter production at Osnabrück in Germany, as the world’s most efficient car, as the combination of lightweight structures and a lithium ion battery-powered plug-in hybrid electric drive yield a European combined fuel consumption rating of 261 miles per gallon.
