Dual fuel designs get alt fuels like methane and propane into the diesel world as one natural gas-skeptical truckmaker said it would work with a dual fuel specialist, and Ford itself is now broadly promoting a gas-prep engine.

Corridors are back in vogue, with methane and propane getting a push by separate organizations, both beginning in Texas.

A leading natural gas fuel vendor says it will add eight new LNG stations in Southern California as a prelude to an even more extensive network in the Southwest U.S..

Another trend? Aftermarket conversions. At least three firms trumpet certifications for 2010 vehicles as the EPA says a proposal to amend the certification process will appear soon.

Federal tax credits and incentives are on all alt fuels minds in Washington, where lobbyists are backing (and tracking) a plethora of bills that would extend expired tax credits and bolster incentives.

A California ZeroTruck with drivetrain from Colorado is on the GSA list and new hybrids, some with turbines and some CNG-fueled, are promoted and proposed.

A major motor-maker sets a new business unit for e-drive vehicles.

The firm which last year built the world’s largest CNG fueling station, in Singapore, is converting 1,000 taxis there for a single customer using all-composite Type IV tanks. Across town, a competitor has a different philosophy on compression. Singapore is getting started on an EV charging infrastructure too, and a Singapore company has a new emulsion product for increasing the non-petroleum content of biodiesel.

We profile the Electric Drive Transportation Association, which took the occasion of its annual meeting in Washington to float a new Action Plan for Congress and the Obama administration.

Electric vehicles have dominated the auto news in the context of Copenhagen but we’re finding that natural gas – call it methane – is going great guns too. We detail

another world’s largest LNG-LCNG fueling facility for Los Angeles (and plans to buy 250 new LNG garbage trucks),

European truck builders – BIG names – embracing NGVs behind growing recognition of biomethane,

the first natural gas version of a new Ford minivan,
plans by the sole OEM provider of a dedicated-CNG passenger car to manufacture plenty,

four refuse fleet contracts (and one for buses) for a prominent methane provider (with large ongoing orders for its new subsidiary),

a biomethane-bolstered, sail-powered cargo ship (!), and

much more, including a Fleets & Fuels Strategies company profile of a lightweight CNG cylinder manufacturer that’s increasing its global reach.

On the electric side, we detail

new promise for flywheels as an ECONOMIC solution for electricity storage on hybrid vehicles,

a leading supplier of series electric drivetrains for buses branches to Europe,

a Norwegian EV company gets going in Finland as it looks to the U.S.,

the J1772 connector design is finalized, and

California’s $20.4 million HVIP program for fast placement of hybrid trucks and buses (key deadlines loom).
Propane (dedicated vans are coming!) and hydrogen too.
