Peter Ward, seen here at October 2011’s NGV Technology Forum in San Francisco, has retired from the California Energy Commission and with Michael Smith has formed Alternative Fuels Advocates, LLC as a public affairs consultancy emphasizing transportation energy policy and business development.
Smith and Ward bring more than 65 years of experience in energy analysis, legislation, policy development, and program design and implementation.
“We are committed to reducing America’s dependence on petroleum by expanding the market opportunities for a broad portfolio of alternative fuels and advanced vehicles,” states an AFA advisory.
“The slate of viable alternative fuels and vehicle technologies has grown and improved, and are ready to compete in the marketplace. Each alternative fuel holds benefits and attributes suitable for different transportation applications, and when developed together as a portfolio, can stimulate competition in a market where it does not now exist.
“Fuel competition in this $150 million daily market will create new businesses and job growth,” AFA says, “accelerate the improvement in air quality and carbon emission reductions, provide consumers with new fuel and vehicle choices, and foster new technologies and emerging markets that can lead to secure, affordable energy supplies.”
