Order Book Opens for PSI-Powered Vehicle for 2015 School Year
Navistar’s IC Bus unit is taking orders for the propane autogas-fueled CE Series school bus with 8.8-liter PSI engine by Power Solutions International. The engineered “is engineered to deliver the highest torque at the lowest speed.”
“The design greatly benefits stop-and-start applications to allow immediate acceleration after stops and greater hill climbing capability,” the manufacturer says. “This also eliminates excessive noise, heat and vibration associated with constant engine revving.
“Minimal revving reduces engine wear, oil usage and maintenance, while increasing durability and efficiency.”
Performance and Service
“The CE series PSI heavy-duty propane engine offers a cleaner, quieter and more user-friendly alternative to diesel that won’t sacrifice power, torque or durability,” states the IC Bus order book release.
Availability of the bus for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year was announced late this past summer (F&F, September 2). Deliveries are to begin this coming summer.
IC Bus notes that there are nearly 300 service and support locations for its school buses, and that support is available too at more than 750 International Truck locations.
